Verification Communications and Whistleblowing Channel

The implementation of whistleblowing channels, also commonly known as alert channels, has been a common practice in all organisations in recent years.

Spanish Law 2/2023, following Directive 2019/1937 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of persons who report breaches of EU law, establishes the obligation to follow a series of requirements when establishing whistleblowing channels and procedures in organisations, so that companies with more than 50 employees must progressively have them in place, as well as any other company that, even if it does not reach that figure, has whistleblowing channels.

In recent years, certain standards have been published that facilitate the implementation of mechanisms, such as UNE 19601 or ISO 37001, and especially ISO 37002, but which introduce a significant burden of obligations and imply an expense that is difficult to assume for some companies, especially SMEs or companies that are not used to implementing management systems or undergoing certification processes, and which, nevertheless, wish or need to submit their channel to an external audit to prove internally or to third parties that it has been implemented in accordance with the legal and regulatory requirements in force.

Faced with this situation, at EQA we have developed the Simplified Whistleblowing Channel Verification service, following a regulated process based on the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17029:2019 standard on requirements for validation and verification bodies.
